Providing training is just one of many ways in which we are working to raise the standards of site engineers in the UK.

In addition to direct training delivery, we work with industry stakeholders to analyse and address the skills gap and undertake focussed research.

Our director, Gail McEwen is a PhD researcher at Glasgow Caledonian University and uses her abilities to complete academic research projects for Setting Out For Construction.

Here are some of our current projects:

  • Our book and online course have been developed to make the relevant learning available to those who are unable to attend in-person training.
  • We have worked closely with the CITB to develop new courses which have now become the recognised national standards.
  • We are currently involved in a project through GCU to help establish Critical Graduate skills within the construction sector.
  • We provided the quantitative research data to GCU, who were commissioned to analyse suicide rates within the construction industry. 
  • We were commissioned by the Scottish Civils Training Group to carry out CITB funded research into how Scottish Universities are meeting the needs of the construction industry.
  • We have trained a number of college and university lecturers to deliver surveying modules effectively and our trainers regularly deliver nationally recognised qualifications in Scottish and English universities and colleges.
  • We worked with a group of construction companies to review and analyse the content of course content at HNC and HND level.
