Advancing Setting Out Skills Across The Industry
Ireland is currently experiencing strong demand across housing, infrastructure and civil engineering. At the same time, many contractors are struggling to secure people with the practical skills required to support setting out on site.
While colleges and universities play an important role, the level of hands on setting out experience gained by graduates can vary significantly. This can leave site teams reliant on a small number of experienced engineers and vulnerable to delays where setting out is not carried out consistently.
Ireland has also welcomed a growing number of overseas engineers through the Critical Skills route. Many bring valuable technical experience, but differences in how roles are structured internationally can mean practical setting out has not previously been part of their day-to-day responsibilities.

The course focuses on the core skills required on site, including control, levels, offsets, checking and good setting out practice. It is suitable for site engineers, assistant engineers and others involved in setting out and site control.
These public courses allow individuals or small teams to access structured, hands on setting out training locally, without the need to travel outside Ireland or Northern Ireland.
