SOCIAL VALUE

At Setting Out For Construction, social value is not an add-on. It is built into the way we design and deliver training. From championing diversity to supporting local businesses, we aim to leave a positive impact that goes beyond the classroom. We are always open to working with charities and community organisations to explore how we can support people who may face barriers to employment, including ex forces personnel, ex offenders and those who have experienced homelessness. CHAMPIONING DIVERSITY IN CONSTRUCTION

As a 100 percent women owned and led provider, we offer visible role models in a male dominated industry, showing that women can be technically excellent, authoritative and highly respected in engineering roles. We also work with overseas candidates and those from diverse backgrounds, helping them overcome barriers to entering the construction industry.

EXPANDING ACCESS TO NEW CAREER PATHS

We have supported career changers, young people, armed forces leavers and those who may have disengaged from traditional education, both through our main courses and through specialist programmes such as Skills Bootcamps. Setting out offers a unique blend of logic, maths and practical application that many learners, particularly those who are neurodiverse, find both therapeutic and empowering.

LEADING INDUSTRY CHANGE

Our Directors are active in industry leadership groups, contributing to the development of qualifications, skills frameworks and diversity and inclusion initiatives. They also mentor and advise small and micro businesses, helping them improve working conditions and adopt flexible employment models that make careers more accessible and family friendly.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

We work with Tier 1 contractors to run hands on events for schools and young people, such as A World of Work construction taster days. These sessions let participants try real equipment, including an excavator simulator, and open their eyes to the rewarding and varied careers construction can offer. By sparking curiosity early, we hope to encourage more young people into the industry and help address the growing skills shortage.

SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND BUSINESSES

We make a conscious effort to do our bit for the communities we serve by choosing community led venues and partnering with small independent caterers and suppliers wherever possible. Combined with our commitment to flexible working for staff, this approach ensures our training brings value not only to learners but also to the people and businesses around us.
