ADVANCING SETTING OUT SKILLS ACROSS THE INDUSTRY

JOB SEARCH SUPPORT

Helping you remove barriers and stand out in a competitive market

WE UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES

If you are funding your own training, we can help you improve your chances of landing the right role.

We know job hunting in construction can be frustrating, from unclear adverts to employers asking for experience you’ve not yet had the chance to gain. We understand those challenges and focus on removing the barriers that are within your control.

NO GUARANTEES -
JUST HONEST ADVICE

Securing a job depends on many factors including market demand, your background, other certifications, your personality, visa status, and sometimes a bit of luck.

We can’t promise a job offer, but we can promise this: we will give you honest advice about whether our training is likely to help you achieve your career goals based on your experience, qualifications, and intentions. If we don’t think it’s the right move for you, we’ll tell you.

If another training provider is suggesting they can connect you directly with jobs, it’s worth asking how, and on what basis, they are able to make that promise. Ask for evidence of success rates, not just testimonials from individual cases, and consider how any provider can realistically offer a job to someone they’ve never met or trained.

QUICK, EMPOWERING JOB SEARCH TIPS

While our courses and job search support can help you long-term, there are steps you can take right now to improve your chances of landing the right role, without spending a penny.

Tailor your CV to the job

Don’t try to create one “catch-all” CV for every role. You don’t need a completely new version for each application, but you should have several variations ready to suit different types of jobs you’re applying for.

Avoid empty, generic words

Phrases like dynamic, hard-working, highly experienced, and self-motivated don’t tell the reader anything meaningful. Anyone can claim them - they don’t set you apart.

Make your profile summary count

This is often the first thing an employer reads. Use it to tell them exactly what they need to know:

Check if training is really the missing piece

Before booking a course, ask yourself: is the lack of this training the real reason you’re not getting interviews, or is there another factor holding you back? Be honest with yourself - it could save you time and money.

Pick up the phone

Don’t rely solely on sending CVs into a black hole. Call recruiters and employers directly, introduce yourself, and find out what they’re actually looking for. That initial conversation can make you stand out before your CV even lands in their inbox.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT NEXT STEP

If your goal is to strengthen your job prospects, our five day Setting Out For Construction course is usually the best starting point – it’s the same practical foundation that leading employers choose for their own teams. You can find out more about it on our 5 Day Course page
